Our Southern friend Mr. Byrd takes a break to get some perspective on this whole ‘cigar’ thing.


This post is going to be more of a general speaking my mind review than anything. In fact, I am not even going to review a cigar. I am just talking about cigars in general.  I wanted to put a question to my devoted readers ( that would be umm…uncle bob, and uh……uh…me)  about cigars and the general moods that surround a good cigar.

One point that I have noted recently is that a good cigar, is that much better when shared with a friend.  Smoking alone can be like drinking alone.  Any hobby, and I consider smoking a hobby, is always enjoyed much more when you can share that hobby.  A guy gets his buddies around plays some cards and smokes some stogies.  I think back to all the times when I smoke cigars, and almost 60% of the time, it is with someone.  That really adds to the whole enjoyment factor.

Lately, I have been doing reviews alone.  Now, I know that I have a hard job. I actually get to write off my cigar purchases as a business expense.  It is a hard knock life, but someone has to do it.  The thing that I have noticed is the fact that smoking alone makes me much more cantankerous about the cigar I am reviewing.  A sad state of affairs I admit, but it is the truth.

Another truth that I have discovered along the way is that I can’t remember the last time I sat back and smoked a cigar just to have a smoke.  This is kinda funny if you think about it.  I love cigars and you would think that a job in that you get to smoke and review cigars has to be joy itself, but you would be wrong.  In fact, smoking can, and will become a job.  You lose your love affair and you settle down in the marriage. The romantics are gone and the TV dinners on the couch in front of the TV is now the reality….Not that I know what that is like or anything…..

“BUT don’t lose hope” I keep telling myself.  At the end of the smoke ring there is a pot of gold.  Okay, I don’t really say that. I don’t even think that but it sounded stupid enough to put in print so there you have it.  So this is my post; a review of the reviewer so to speak.  I am going to take today as a break from my job and, tomorrow, my hobby will reemerge and I will give you a new cigar review with a new perspective on cigars……..

Well, at least I will give you a review…
