A Sumatra that doesn’t leave you feeling like you just ate some cayenne peppers! The Godfather reviews the Olor Del Cibao Sumatra Torpedo 6 1/2 x 50

Home Cooking?

There is always something comforting about home court advantage. You expect to get all of the breaks. If it is a controversial decision, you know that your team will get the call. Why? Home Cooking!  Well, this cigar is like that for me.  The cigar up for review today is the:

Olor Del Cibao Sumatra Torpedo 61/2 x 50

To be honest with the readers, and just in case someone did a “smokinggun.com ” report on me, I thought I should share with you my ties to this company.  My cigar distribution company is the largest US Distributor of Olor Del Cibao cigars.  Needless to say, I am quite partial to my brand. Knowing my duty to you the reader, I shall endeavor to give a fair and balanced review of this cigar….I will try, but I shall not exceed!

I am also enlisting the help of another person; a new reviewer that will be posting soon. He will be entering his own reviews of this cigar later this week. You the reader can judge the cigar’s worth much better with at least two different reviews on this cigar.

Normally, I only “review” a cigar while having a glass of water near by.  Usually, most other types of beverages will take away from your palettes ability to discern the different nuances of the cigar, but today, and only today, I had a coke.  I just didn’t want any more water. I drink enough as it is and I wanted a time to relax and smoke and considering I was at a park in my car trying to just relax, a bit of scotch wouldn’t have been so appropriate and not wanting water, coco-cola was the beverage of this champion today.

With all of those caveats in place, let us now proceed to talk about this “wonderful, exciting, astonishing, beautiful, delightful” cigar……..

As I stated earlier, I smoked the Sumatra Torpedo.  Normally, I hate Sumatra wrappers. They are too spicy for me.  I do enjoy a nice and strong smoke, but a strong and spicy smoke is just crazy to me, so I will usually shun a Sumatra like the Asian Bird Flu.  Since I am the distributor for this cigar, it is only right for me to at least know what the cigar taste like so I made myself smoke this cigar.

The Differences

I was quite surprised by the differences in this cigar versus the other Sumatra wrappers that I have had.  First, this wrapper wasn’t that spicy at all. Second, this cigar wasn’t that strong.  My two things I hated about Sumatra wrappers didn’t even exist with this one, so I thought, hey, I might like this.

The wrapper is a nice gumbo brown color (gumbo is what we call dirt down south!). I didn’t notice any protruding veins and the wrapper looked quite nice. I used some matches to light my cigar, and it took a while for me to get it lit. That could have been do to the fact that I am not good at using matches, or that the cigar didn’t want to take the light.  In any case, it lit up and I started smoking it.  I didn’t notice any harsh tastes in my mouth as I do with many cigars upon first lighting them.

The cigar was quite easy to draw and left a nice white ash.  The other day, a friend of mine had a 2.5 inch ash on his Maduro line of this cigar. Needless to say, the construction was great for it to hold together so well. It produced a good amount of nice grey smoke.

I would have to describe this cigar as quite mellow. It was a very mild smoke. It was a nice pleasant smoke that didn’t leave any bitter or harsh aftertaste on your palette. Overall, it was quite easy to smoke.  Personally, my tastes run to a bit of a stronger cigar and we are developing a stronger Sumatra right now, but as for this cigar in particular, I would think most newbie’s to the cigar communities would love it. This is a reasonably priced mild Sumatra cigar that you will like.

If you are interested in knowing more about this cigar and this company, you can visit their web page at www.olordelcibao.com.  They are giving away free samples as well, so go there and get yours and get your local tobacco store to start carrying this line of cigars.

I didn’t succeed in being impartial, but oh well. It is a good smoke regardless of the fact that I sell it. My next review is going to be on the Flor De Oliva Sumatra Robusto and after that, the Flor De Oliva Corojo Torpedo.  I am looking forward to giving reviews on my favorite bundle cigars.
