This Dominican Is King of the Cigar World
Arturo Fuente Gran Reserva Churchill 7 ¼ x 48
Binder and Filler: Dominican
Upon first looking at this cigar you are struck by the regality of it. It looks as if a king would smoke it. It has a nice medium brown wrapper that simply oozes with oil. This cigar has been sitting in my humidor for at least two months, so it is differently time to give it a shot. First impressions are big, and this one impressed me.
It gave me a nice even cut. It is as if it knows that it is destined for nobility….it must remain clean cut….It was pretty easy to light as well. That is always a good sign. A good cut and easy to light.
Fuente’s are in general noted as the premier Dominican cigar company. I would venture to say that they are noted not just in the Dominican world, but they have established themselves as dominate players on the world scene competing right up there with Cubans. The gran reserve line of cigar has to be one of there best cigar undertakings to date. All the tobacco used is aged for perfection and wrapped in an African Cameroon, Connecticut Shade, or their new edition Ecuadorian Sun-Grown.
I have smoked many a Fuente’s in my time. They have all been good cigars. They are quite well known and you can get them in about any fine tobacco shop. But, lets get back to business on this cigar. From the beginning, this has been a wonderful cigar. After lighting, I didn’t notice any harshness at all. It is full of flavor and doesn’t leave any bitterness in your mouth.
As with many Dominican cigars, there is a certain earthy taste to the cigar. It isn’t so pronounced in this one, but it is there. It lets you know you are smoking a Dominican. It is a good taste; a subtle undertone that permeates the entire cigar. The ash is light grey and stays on the cigar for a respectable amount of time. The cigar has a very well defined dark ring around where it is lit at: a sign of proper aging.
It burns great. It looks regal. It tastes fantastic. What more can you ask for in a cigar? I would give this one two thumbs up. Go out and buy you one and you will want to buy the box.
