Te amo leaves me feeling unloved!

Te Amo Churchill 7 x 50 - Mexican Puro

Paid $5.00

Well, I must say I was a bit disappointed about this cigar.  I read a great article in Cigar Magazine about the Te Amo company in the San Andreas Valley in Mexico and since then I have wanted to try one of their cigars. I asked my local tobacco stores about getting one and he said they were “okay” nothing spectacular.  Being a bit of a hard nosed smoker I can’t just let someone else’s opinion determine what I am going to smoke so I went to another tobacco store and found the Te Amo Churchill. I quickly snatched this one up and decided to review this baby right away.   As you will see, I have learned to just trust my tobacconist, he knows his stuff!!!!!

The appearance of this Mexican Puro is great. It has a medium colored wrapper and there were not any “huge” veins popping out. I paid $5.00 for this cigar, so for me to part out my cold hard cash for this cigar, I expected a lot, and unfortunately, it didn’t deliver the goods.  The problems began early on. I had a very hard time lighting this puppy up. I went through several matches just to get it going (and I use the long splints). When I did get it burning the first taste was so harsh I wanted to spit it out, but I endured. I spent $5 on this dog and I wanted it to hunt!  Well, after drooling all over myself trying to gets this cigar burning all the while trying not to taste it I managed to get it to light up. Of course, there happened to be another problem that arose. This cigar started to run on me right away.

I tried to let it cool and see if it would behave itself and start burning evenly, but alas, it was determined to be defiant. My pyromaniac tendencies came out and I relit the bottom portion to get the burn to even out.  WOW, I thought the first light was rough, this about made me want to give up smoking all together. It was horrible.

I notice I am being a bit “harsh” on this cigar, so I better point out some of the good qualities lest anyone from Mexico come to the understanding that I am racist and put a contract on me!

First of all, it did look very nice. It was very easy to cut. It held together after I started to smoke it. There was plenty of tobacco in the cigar and it produced plenty of smoke. It had a rather easy draw to it, but of course, I didn’t like the cigar so that was actually a curse. Te Amo’s, as a brand,  tend to be spicy medium to full body cigars. Expect that if you go out and buy one!

After the initial lighting offense the cigar settled down and I didn’t experience too much problems with it. The taste was rather average to me. About half way through this Churchill I did taste some ammonia buildup which left a bad taste in my mouth.  The smell of the smoke was pleasing enough though it was nothing to make a big deal out of.

Basically, for $5 I could have found many other cigars that I would have rather smoked. Maybe I got a bad one and the rest of them are perfect. To be honest with you, I don’t know if I want to try another one.  Their anniversary series has gotten some decent reviews, but that is another cigar for another day. In my book, save your hard earned dough and buy some burritos instead of this Mexican Puro!
