Rocky's one two punch. Rocky Patel's Edge Lite Cigar is worth the money!!! Rocky Patel Edge Light

Toro 6 x 52

Wrapper: Golden Connecticut

Binder and Filler: Honduran

Price Paid: $6.15

I have found in the last few weeks my ability to sit down and enjoy a smoke has been severely hampered by my inability to stay still for longer than thirty minutes.  I have so much I am trying to do each day, so my break to smoke hasn’t been the usual hour of utopia, but thirty utopian minutes is better than nothing.  The cigar I picked for today’s review is made by Indian Tobac Cigars which is the famed cigar company of Rocky Patel.  Rocky Patel created his “edge” line of cigars that as his website says is “for professional smokers only while sitting down.”  So if they come with that type of warning label, I wanted to give it a shot. Call it the rebel in me, but if I would have read that label before I bought the cigar, I would have stood up on purpose the whole time.

As I entered my local tobacconist shop I was taking hedonistic delight in all the different selections available to me but this cigar just stuck out to me for a few reasons reason.  It has a golden, and I do mean golden, Connecticut wrapper on it.  It was lying there in the box without any band. It has this simplistic beauty to it that really attracted me. The presentation of the cigar was superb.  The box said the tobaccos where aged for at least 5 years and it was only $6.15 a stick, so I picked one up.

The smell of this cigar is great. I could sniff it all day long. Superb aged tobacco is one of the best smells in the world….or so I think. I cut the cigar and lit it up.  It was easy to light and easy to draw and it had one of my favorite features: lots of smoke. The cigar had a smooth and natural taste to it which one would expect from 5 year old tobacco.  It had a ton of flavor with none of the harshness you would find in a cigar that hadn’t been aged as long.

I honestly didn’t think of the cigar as being that strong. It was not as strong as the maker suggested in my opinion.  The cigar has been aged properly so it smoked oh so smoothly.  It wasn’t a “lite” cigar meaning a cigar for a newbie. The “lite” refers to the 5 ½ year old Connecticut wrapper.  One of the reasons I know that this cigar wasn’t so “strong” was that my wife, who will only on rare occasions smoke a cigar, came outside and smoked MY CIGAR!!!!

I have to admit, I think a classy and sophisticated lady, such as my wife, smoking a cigar is incredibly sexy….Anywho, my wife liked the smoke, so it couldn’t have been that strong.  Of course, she just happened to “inhale” and that made the whole thing quite funny…..

Overall, I was impressed with the cigar. For $6 you get a good smoke. I would think that anyone that can truly appreciate a good cigar would love this one.  It is well worth the money you paid for it. I will be reviewing the Rocky Patel Vintage series soon. The wrapper is from the famed crop year of 1990. 16 year old tobacco should smoke pretty darn good.

As always, if you have a cigar you would like for me to review, send me an e-mail to with the subject line “cigar reviews.”
