Perdomo Reserve Cabinet Torpedo 7x 45
The more that I pay for a cigar, the less I tend to want to smoke it. Of course, this is paradoxical, but what I really mean is looking at the cigar in your humidor, you still have it there for a time of need, but the day you cut the head and start to smoke it, it is gone forever or unless you unload some more cash for another one. A great cigar is like that great port or aged scotch that you only pull out for a very special occasion. You simply can’t think of wasting it on a ho-hum day. Nothing short of a spectacular occurrence will make you pull out the good stuff.
This cigar that I am review today is kind of like that to me. It has been one of my favorites for a long time. I have had much more expensive cigars and an $8.50 cigar isn’t what I call super high, but it ain’t low either. I guess I need to get around to naming the thing. Well, it is made by Tabacalera Perdomo. The particular cigar is from the famed champagne series. This Torpedo boasts a size of 7 x 45 with a medium to full body taste. They use a six year old aged Connecticut wrapper that is velvety smooth coupled with their fabulous Nicaraguan binder and filler. As my readers know, I am quite partial to Nicaraguan cigars and I would have to say this is one of the best from Nicaragua that I have ever tasted.
The cigar is fairly easy to light and starts to burn quite evenly from the beginning. It has a nice ring around the burn which is a sign of quality aged tobacco. It produces a great quantity of smoke and considering I am smoking this cigar outside and still notice the smoke means you might want to have a good ventilation system if you are going to be smoking this indoors. The taste is wonderful with its subtle semi sweetness to it with no trace of any harshness to it at all. It has a creamy nutty finish that is smooth on the palette.
Check around your local tobacconist for your Perdomo. Perdomo has cigar tasting all the time around here in Memphis, so I am sure your local store could host one. They usually run some good deals on the cigars as well so make sure to pick you up a few. Be very stingy with these cigars. They cost a bit and they taste great. Don’t let the newbie who can’t appreciate the delicacies and nuances of the cigar be treated to this. Let him by his own. When it is your money on the line, the cigar is always easier to appreciate.
