When I started my new life of being a cigar smoker, I heard about a few major companies and the cigars they produced. You have your Fuente’s your Macanudos and your Montecristo’s. Well, today I decided to go ahead and review a cigar that just about everyone that everyone has heard of and will probably try.
Montecristo cigars are made by a huge conglomerate called Altadis cigars. Altadis makes other premium brands such as Romeo E Julieta, H. Upman, Onyx and many other fine cigars. They are not your “boutique” cigar company. Altadis has bought up many a fine cigar company and that is why there are so many options when you get an Altadis product.
The cigar up for review today is from there white label. It is the Montecristo Court with a size of 44 x 5 1/2 .
As I walked in the humidor to pick this one out I noticed the glossy white box that houses these cigars. I wondered again as I was laying down my $8.75 that if the cigar could have been $5.00 a stick without the box….? Anyway, I pulled this one out of the tube and low and behold, it was exactly what I expected. The cigar looked great. The wrapper was flawless. It smelled good and looked good but would it live up to the hype and taste good?
I lit it up and noticed right away the good construction of this cigar. The cigar burned quite evenly from beginning to end. I never had a problem with the burn. It always produced a nice bit of smoke. I have had Montecristo’s before and this is pretty much the same. It is a flawlessly constructed smoke that is perfect for the beginners palette.
I knew what I was expecting and the cigar delivered on all cylinders. All in all, it is an ok cigar.
Now I have to let you know my personal ideas about this cigar. I have to write about what they company is trying to produce and for what they are going for, the cigar is ok. My personal feeling about this cigar are quite different than what I have to score it on. Maybe I smoke to much, but I thought it was rather bland. I didn’t notice much of anything that would resemble taste. It was pretty forgettable for me. Frankly, if I didn’t have to review this cigar, I would have never bought it or smoked it.
I am not “knocking” the cigar because it serves the valuable purpose of getting newbies to smoke all the while lining Altisdis with a ton of money. What I am knocking is having a $9 smoke that taste like paper. I want to know that I at least smoked a cigar. If I wanted paper I could have opened my printer and puffed away.
Try a Montecristo just to say you have had one then go and buy better cigars that are half as much.
