BOLD AND SPICY get your heartburn here! The Godfather tells us why you've got to like spicy to like the Flor de Oliva Robusto Sumatra.
Pepper anyone?
Flor de Oliva Robusto Sumatra If you read my previous post on the Olor Del Cibao Sumatra Torpedo you will know that I am not that “keen” on Sumatra wrappers. This is one of those times when my lovely job sinks down to just a “job.”
The cigar I am reviewing today is the Flor De Oliva Robusto with a Indonesian Sumatra Wrapper with 100% all Nicaraguan fillers 5 x 50.
I am quite partial to most of the Flor De Oliva bundle cigars. I feel they really give the average Joe a great smoke for a great price, and with the cigar I am reviewing today, they keep up reputation.
The wrapper on this cigar is beautiful. The medium brown Sumatra wrapper is quite appealing. The overall aesthetics of this cigar is great, but we expect as much from Flor De Oliva. The construction was perfect. Burns great and draws even better. For all of the things that makes a cigar great other than taste, this cigar scores exceedingly high. I never even tasted a bit of ammonia, which is one of the things that I routinely find in lower priced cigars.
My only problem with this cigar is the fact that I do not particularly like Sumatra wrappers. This cigar, by nature of the Sumatra wrapper and the all Nicaraguan fillers, is a very strong and spicy smoke. It has a very peppery taste to it that some people like, but those people “ain’t me.” If you love a good strong smoke with a lot of peppery spice to it then this is your cigar. I would not recommend this cigar for those new to the cigar world. It takes a more refined palette or one that is numb to the strength of the cigar to be able to fully enjoy this one.
It reminds me of the La Flor Dominicana Double Ligero cigar which is also a strong and spicy cigar. The only advantage that this cigar has over the Double Ligero is that this cigar can be bought online for about $1.20 a stick with shipping included which makes this one heck of a deal.
Try this cigar out if you love spicy smokes. You will not be disappointed with it. Buck for buck it represents a great value, so even if you hate it, you didn’t spend much which makes giving this cigar a chance that much easier.
My next review will be on another one of my favorites that isn’t well known in the states: The Hoja De Nicaragua. This brand is the favorite of the King of Saudi Arabia which can smoke any cigar he pleases, yet he chooses this one…check back tomorrow and find out why!
