Have you ever wanted a $7 smoke for a under $2? If so, we have got a review of a great bundle cigar that will make your wallet love you!

 flor de oliva

A review is only one person’s opinion on something. What I like or dislike is always my own opinion. Tobacco is a wonderful gift from God. Every different country and every different region within those countries produce different tasting tobacco. My goal is to try them all and report what I fine. I tend to enjoy a stronger cigar. I have been smoking a while and my palette has grown accustomed to the fuller bodied cigars. You might be different. You might have just begun to discover the wonderful world of cigars. In the end, it is only your taste buds that count. Find what you like, smoke it and blow smoke rings toward those who raise a fuss!

When you attempt to define why you like something or not, you start to realize that most of these things that you like or dislike are intrinsic. You don’t even realize the mental processes that go through determining whether you like something or not. You just “know.” We never sit down and write out what we like or dislike about anything. It struck me today that to tell someone why I like this cigar so much wasn’t going to be as easy as I originally thought. I choose this cigar for my first review for two very important reasons. The first reason is the great price. At $2.45 from my local tobacco store this was a cheap cigar. The other reason was this cigar was in my humidor and I was too lazy to get out to buy another one to review. Therefore, I am going to review the:

Flor de Oliva Gold Torpedo 6x52

My next few reviews will be all from the same cigar company: the Oliva family out of Nicaragua. Now, I know what you are thinking. This is buydominicancigars.com right, so why are you reviewing a Nicaraguan cigar?  Well, the answer is simple.  I like the cigar and we are committed here at buydominicancigars to bringing you the best deals in cigars from all over the world. The Dominican Republic is just the stepping stone. The other reason is that these are in my humidor!!!!

This cigar is rather famous. It is the best selling bundle cigar in the US today. Dollar for dollar, these are also the best cigars on the market today in my opinion. This line of cigars comes in four different wrappers: Sumatra, Connecticut, Maduro, or Corojo. All of them are great, but today we are going to focus on the Connecticut wrapper. The torpedo is a 6 x 52 all Nicaraguan long filler with a golden seed Connecticut wrapper that you will adore. They come in individual cellophaned bundles of 25.

Now, for the good part, I can light my cigar!

As I took this piece of art out of the cellophane I just couldn’t resist sniffing it like a 100 year old cognac. The sweet aroma of tobacco well blended hit me in the nostrils. I wish I could bottle this and let my wife wear it.  In an interesting aside, a good friend of mine loved the smell of this cigar so much he took the end of the torpedo which he clipped off and stuck it up his nose; Strange? Yes, but wait until you sniff this baby! You might find yourself using this for snuff!

The wrapper looked great. It had just a few protruding veins, but considering how expensive Connecticut wrappers are and this is only a two-dollar smoke the wrapper was great. The cigar smoked beautifully. The draw was perfect and the burn was even. It was very well constructed. It didn’t fall apart on me at all. The cigar gave off a great amount of thick smoke perfect for blowing smoke rings….well, I think it is perfect. My attempt at smoke rings is pathetic at best. In any case, smoke abounded and that is what we want, so it scores a ten on that factor.

You will have to take you time smoking this cigar. Right after you light it, give it a little bit to cool down. It tends to bite at you a bit if you smoke it too fast. If you take your time, this cigar will smoke great and taste great right down to the nub. If you smoke it too fast the ammonia will build up and about halfway through you will want to through it out, so take your time and enjoy it! Overall, this is a great smoke. It has everything you would want from a boxed brand, but is comes with the price tag of a bundle. This cigar sells so well it is quite hard to order them sometimes. I have had a box of the Oliva Maduro’s on backorder for the last 6 weeks.

Now, I must mention the one part about this cigar that I don’t particularly like. It is the only thing I can find fault in this cigar and in their brands.  This cigar, since it is such a great selling cigar, is always on backorder. This is good for the Oliva family, but this doesn’t mean it is good for you. The problem occurs when the demand is so strong and the supply is not able to keep up. Too much of a good thing tends to produce average results. Because of the strong demand, the cigars are shipped right after they are wrapped and aged for the bare minimum of 14 to 21 days. Cigars, when they are wrapped, begin another fermentation process which builds up the amount of ammonia that is in the cigar. This is a naturally process and it helps to make the wrapper blend with the binder and filler. The problem is that these cigars are a bit fresh and need to be aged longer. The demand is high, so this is hoping for a lot. Tobacco is a cash crop and for around $2 a stick you can’t expect them to be aged for very long.

I would still have to say that this is one of my favorite cigars. If you pick one up a local tobacco store, hopefully they have aged some more in their humidors so that they will not have high levels of ammonia in them.  If you buy a bundle, I would suggest letting them sit in your humidor for a few weeks; the longer the better.  Give this cigar some time and you will love it.

Again, smoke this cigar slowly and you will agree that this is the best cheap cigar around. You can order a bundle online from Atlantic Cigars ( www.AtlanticCigar.com )for only $35.75. Shipping should run your somewhere around $6 a bundle. For around $42 bucks or roughly $1.68 a stick you get a great deal and a great smoke.

My next review will be the Flor De Oliva Maduro and yes, I happen to have that one in my humidor as well!

Remember the immortal words of Samuel Clemmons, “I always smoke in moderation. I smoke only one cigar at a time.”
